It’s not unusual to have a windy day for the Spring Native Plant Sale, but April 13 was the first time the wind was so strong that it destroyed tent canopies. The unrelenting wind also sent boxes, signs and other objects flying. Volunteers and vendors went home with wind-burned faces.
However, the wind didn’t keep the crowds away. Although it is not possible to get an accurate count of visitors to the Sale, we estimate that close to 2,000 people came to browse and buy native plants. By the end of the day, all four nurseries had sold most of the plants they brought with them. This was the most successful sale Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy has had.
Loudoun Wildlife’s Native Plant Sales are more than just an opportunity to buy plants. Six nonprofit partners had information booths at the Sale, and Wild Birds Unlimited of Ashburn also participated. The popular “Native Plants for Beginners” presentation returned to the Sale, and once again drew an enthusiastic crowd.
Mark your calendars now for the Fall Native Plant Sale, which will take place on September 7, 2024.
