More than 260 species of birds are known to breed in Loudoun County and hundreds more visit and migrate through every year. We know this through the efforts of volunteers who join us for two major bird counts every year – the Christmas Bird Count and the Celebrate Birds month that includes the Birdathon. The Young Birding Program includes counts by young birders.
The data collected during these events and for the Loudoun County Bird Atlas are vital because birds play a key role in our ecosystem and are important indicators of the overall health of our environment. Join us on a count – not only is it important, it’s fun!
