Red-headed Woodpecker.

Nine birders, including walk leaders Bryan Henson and Patrick Lewis, braved the aftermath of the Friday night snow to search for birds at Algonkian Park on February 17. Fortunately, the snow was only about an inch deep. Unfortunately, the wind was strong, and that made the birds a little hard to find. Despite the wind, the group found many of our common birds, including a few surprises. A large flock of Gadwall and American Wigeons were on the Potomac River and provided the group with good scope views. The highlight of the walk was a Red-headed Woodpecker that landed in good light right along the trail in front of us. The group found a total of 27 species of birds that can be viewed on eBird at: https://ebird.org/checklist/S161827772
