Thirteen people showed up on February 24 for the monthly bird walk at Sweet Run State Park led by Scott Harris, Carol Sottili and John Denise. The weather was mild and cloudy with temperatures in the high 40s. It should have been good weather for birding, but the birds didn’t get the memo. We had a very quiet walk through the woods with not many birds. As is often the case, the most productive area for seeing birds was near the parking lot, in the meadows adjacent the forest. Everyone got good looks at some Field Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos and Northern Flickers.
All total we saw 28 species, which is a low number for a bird walk at Sweet Run. You can see the complete list of birds seen on eBird at: https://ebird.org/checklist/S162738013.
