Eight participants joined the workshop group on November 2 for our first, very chilly indoor session this season. Of course, we spent time outdoors, too. Addressing the topic of coming home, we discussed two questions. Where is home? What is home? We listened to a song from the musical “The Visitor” entitled “Where is Home,” a lament by an immigrant trying to find his way in America. After listening and taking notes, our discussion included challenges about the concept of home: is it a place? Is it where certain people live? Is it internal?
We then prepared to brave the cold and explore the Morven Park landscape as if we were coming home, looking for evidence that we have found it. A poem by David Whyte, “Alone in the Forest,” set the stage for our quest. The fresh, unique views on home when we returned to our cozy Gate House space intersected and enriched each person’s perspective.
