Twenty-one birders visited Algonkian Regional Park on a beautiful fall day on October 19. Many of the attending birders were new to birding and were excited to see birds new to them, including Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Yellow-rumped Warbler and Belted Kingfisher. The walk leaders described how to distinguish between Fish Crow and American Crow, including our classic bad birder joke (which you have to hear to understand). They also taught the group how to figure out if a vulture is a Black Vulture or a Turkey Vulture at a distance, and the important role that both vulture species play in our area. The group saw many sparrows, with the species diversity mostly dominated by vocal White-throated Sparrows.
We found a total of 36 species of birds, and the full list can be seen on eBird at: https://ebird.org/checklist/S280310620.
