The Signs Are In at JK Black Oak

With time to spare before their debut at the Open House on September 27, the permanent information signs have been installed at JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary.  The 10 signs are distributed along the Red and Yellow trails and cover topics including vernal pools, community science and deer exclosure fences.

Two crews of volunteers spent a weekday evening plus a Saturday morning to get the signs installed. The evening session was spent digging holes approximately 30 inches deep using two large mechanical augers. On Saturday the signs were put in the ground and anchored with a gravel base and quick-setting concrete. Then one person held the sign upright while a second one checked repeatedly with a level to make sure the sign was straight.

Funding for the signs was provided as part of a grant from Microsoft.
