Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy is a volunteer-driven organization.  Our volunteers are working together for a common vision — to create a place where people and wildlife thrive together.

Information Table at Paws, Pines, and Pints (March 13, 5:00–9:00 pm)
We’re looking for 2 more volunteers to staff an information table at Paws, Pines, and Pints, a lively fundraising event at Lost Rhino Brewery in Ashburn benefiting LWC and A Fighting Chance Foundation. Volunteers will greet attendees, share information about LWC’s programs and volunteer opportunities, encourage newsletter sign-ups, as well as sell merchandise. Interested? Email volunteer@loudounwildlife.org to sign up.

🌿 Volunteer at the Native Plant Sale – April 11! 🌿
Our Native Plant Sale returns to Morven Park on April 11, and we’re looking for volunteers to help make it happen! This is one of our largest events of the year, with 45+ volunteers supporting plant set-up, customer assistance, merchandise and info tables, attendance tracking, traffic direction, and end-of-day clean-up.Three shifts are available (6:30am to 9:00am, 8:45am to noon, and noon to 3:00pm), and you can sign up for one or more. Rain or shine, it’s always a fun day with fellow native plant enthusiasts! Interested in volunteering? Register here.

Scrape for the Grape – March 21st, April 4th, and April 12th from 9:00 am-2:00 pm
Join us as we join with LIRA and other local organizations to combat the devastating effects of the invasive Spotted Lanternfly on Loudoun’s rural economy. Sign up for one or more of these fun events, which last from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm each day. You’ll be trained on-site how to identify and scrape Spotted Lanternfly egg masses from the vines and other crops they’ll destroy once they hatch. Register Here (ideally by March 18th, April 1st, and April 9th for the respective event dates).

Volunteer with our Stream Team!
Curious about what’s living beneath the surface of our local streams? Join one of Loudoun Wildlife’s certified stream monitors and discover the hidden world of aquatic life while contributing to real science. Sign up using our volunteer sign-up form. Site availability may change as spots fill. If a site you’re interested in is no longer listed in the form, email Amy at aulland@loudounwildlife.org to be added to the waitlist.

Save the Bluebells: Garlic Mustard Pull
Every Thursday starting March 19-ending on April 16 and on Saturday March 28| 10:00 AM–12:00 PM
March (12th postponed to the 19th) 19,26,28 and April 2,9,16
Garlic Mustard is an invasive species that began taking over Ball’s Bluff years ago. Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy mobilizes a crew in early spring to pull the invasive plant before it spreads further competing with the spring ephemerals that make the park so beautiful. Each invasive plant removed, no matter how small, makes an impact because the millions of seeds from the removed plants never get a chance to fall into the soil seed bank. Be part of this important habitat conservation project and sign up to be on a contacted each week with a reminder to attend the event. Registration required: Sign-Up Here!
Questions: Contact BJ Lecrone at bjlecrone@loudounwildlife.org

April 4 – JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary Work Day (Lucketts)
Join us from 9:30am to 12:30pm for rerouting one of the trails plus a couple of other projects. 20 Volunteers Needed (minimum age 16). Registration Required. Note: to protect the environmentally sensitive habitat, Black Oak is not open for general public access. More info and Sign Up

Salt Watch (year round)
Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy’s Salt Watch Program helps monitor and understand the impact of road salt on local streams. Volunteers are needed to collect monthly and winter data about the salt levels in streams around the county, and we are specifically looking for volunteers in the Leesburg, Sterling, South Riding, Round Hill and Purcellville areas. Visit the Salt Watch page for more information about the program and how to volunteer.

FrogWatch Monitor (February through September)
Join our amphibian monitoring efforts by providing data about frogs in Loudoun County. Participation consists of learning the various calls of our local frog/toad species using the instructional material we provide and then monitoring a specific location of your choice for calls. FrogWatch requires minimal time commitment and is a great activity for family participation. If you are interested, please complete the Amphibian/Reptile Volunteer Application.
