Last week we hosted our first in-person education presentations since the beginning of the pandemic. On evening of July 16, 26 participants attended “The Magic of Moths” program presented by Dr. David Adamski outside at Morven Park. Dr. Adamski dazzled the audience with knowledge and photographs as both children and adults were actively engaged, inquisitively asking questions throughout the presentation.
Two cloth sheets were set up utilizing different light sources (mercury vapor lightbulb and blacklight) to attract moths for up close viewings.
Participants were delighted to see a variety of moths including an Imperial Moth and Tulip-tree Beauty. Many other insects were attracted to the lights including an Eastern Dobsonfly. As we were taking down the sheets, we also noticed a Rosy Maple Moth. When it was all said and done, we all gained a greater appreciation for moths, and we were excited by the variety and abundance of moths seen.
