Eastern Meadowlark

Led by Bryan Henson, eight birders joined Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy’s March bird walk at Bles Park on a nice but windy Sunday. The highlight of the walk was an Eastern Meadowlark that flew around the edges of one of the soccer fields providing good looks and entertaining us with its calls and song. Tree Swallows were checking out bird boxes near the wetlands, Yellow-rumped Warblers populated the mature forest sections, and White-throated Sparrows were found throughout the park. An Eastern Phoebe was found near the mouth of Broad Run along with a quick view of a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Two Bald Eagles, one adult and the other immature, chased one another along the Potomac River. All told, we found 45 species of birds and had an enjoyable morning.
