The Saturday regular monthly Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy bird walk at the Blue Ridge Center November 25 found several mixed flocks but not a whole lot of diversity. In one area our group of eight people found two Brown Creepers, one of which gave us great views, as well as both kinglet species. Another mixed flock included Hermit Thrushes. Woodpeckers seemed to be everywhere and while we saw only five woodpecker species there were good numbers of each and including a couple of hatch-year Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers. The walk concluded with beautiful views of a Brown Thrasher glowing in the late fall sun. Cedar Waxwings seemed to be everywhere and were primarily eating fox grapes as were several of the other species.
The monthly bird walk takes place every fourth Saturday of the month except December.
