A Great Place
Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park is 122 acres of forest buffer that runs along the Potomac River.
As you leave the parking area, head towards the golf course to get to the actual trail head. Along the walkway (paved golf cart path), be sure to stop at the bridges that go over the small steams and wetlands and watch for various wildlife in the water.
Hawks can be seen hunting the forest edge. Woodpeckers are found drumming on trees. Warblers and flycatchers can be seen along the river’s edge.
Arriving at the trail, watch for ducks and other waterfowl near the rocky areas. Damselflies and dragonflies can be seen along the path and through spring and summer you can see a variety of wildflowers and butterflies.
The walk along the trail is shaded by the thin forest buffer and is an easy walk. The trail heads upstream and downstream, so there are no loops.
