A Great Place
Olde Izaak Walton Park is a nice wooded refuge of 21 acres in Leesburg.
With a 3 1/2 acre pond, it attracts not only woodland birds but also a variety of ducks, geese, herons and more.
A stream that runs through the park and into the pond attracts kingfishers, which can be heard rattling off their call.
The park has a walking trail around the pond that is nice for a nature stroll.
Of special interest is an old quarry that in springtime may capture water and serve as a vernal pool for amphibians.
Bring your binoculars and check out what’s wild.
