Sixteen birders led by Bryan Henson visited Bles Park on a nice sunny day on November 1. The first surprise of the day came as several American Pipits flew overhead. As our group came to the marsh, we spotted another surprise: a River Otter. We also saw a Great Blue Heron and several Mallards. Then in Broad Run, a Beaver was spotted swimming within 20 feet of where we were standing. In the woods, we encountered a large flock of kinglets (both Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets) with a Hermit Thrush and another big surprise: two Blue-headed Vireos! With a total of 49 different species of birds, it was a good day for birding.
