Site Description: The JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary is an 89-acre parcel of land owned by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and located just to the west of the village of Lucketts. This site lies in the northeast corner of the property on an unnamed tributary of Limestone Branch, which flows into the Potomac River.
Certified Lead Monitor: Amy Ulland started conducting benthic macroinvertebrate monitoring at this site in the spring of 2021. Loudoun Wildlife has also been conducting an intensive series of E. coli testing at this site throughout 2022, which was made possible by grant funding from the Tides Foundation, on behalf of the Google Data Centers Grants Fund. Measured E. coli concentrations in JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary Upstream starting in June 2021. Between May and September 2022, the Virginia DEQ single sample recreational use threshold of 235 CFU is continuously exceeded at values up to 22 times the threshold.
