Site Description: The JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary is an 89-acre parcel of land owned by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy and located just to the west of the village of Lucketts. This site lies about a quarter of mile downstream of the northeast corner of the property on an unnamed tributary of Limestone Branch, which flows into the Potomac River.
Certified Lead Monitor: Amy Ulland started conducting benthic macroinvertebrate monitoring at this site in the spring of 2021. Loudoun Wildlife has also been conducting an intensive series of E. coli testing at this site throughout 2022, which was made possible by grant funding from the Tides Foundation, on behalf of the Google Data Centers Grants Fund. Measured E. coli concentrations in JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary Downstream starting in June 2021. The Virginia DEQ single sample recreational use threshold of 235 CFU is exceeded in 20 out of 30 sampling events, with values up to nearly 103 times the threshold.
