During the May 14 Celebrate Birds walk at Institute Farm and Mt. Pleasant, birders found a total of 51 species. Soaring Barn Swallows and feisty Red-winged Blackbirds were abundant at the pond at Mt. Pleasant. A Green Heron perched on a branch above the water, its bright orange feet visible. Orchard Orioles, Warbling Vireos, Common Yellowthroats and Great Crested Flycatchers sang. Grasshopper Sparrows buzzed in the fields. At the Institute Farm across the road, the group added Wood Thrush, Northern Parula, Ovenbird, American Redstart, Indigo Bunting and Scarlet Tanager to their list.
The walk was led by Linda Millington and Emily Southgate, and the complete list of species can be viewed on eBird: https://ebird.org/tripreport/370149.
