Under gray skies and the continuous threat of rain 10 birders looked for, but mostly heard, birds at JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary. The walk took place on May 9 and was led by Gerco Hoogeweg and John Denice.
With spring migration well underway, we should have found lots of birds. However, we had a difficult time seeing the birds in the canopy. We did see plenty of Gray Catbirds (40) and heard an amazing number of Red-eyed Vireos (24), but other birds were difficult to spot. We tallied 41 species, which was below par for this time of the year. The full list of species can be viewed on eBird at: https://ebird.org/checklist/S173020513.
