Thirteen participants gathered around the table in layers on February 2 to explore the idea of life below the surface both in ourselves and in nature. The poem “Winter” by Karen Gray makes the case for winter as the most stable, bedrock of seasons on which the others depend. After sharing ideas about our lives above and below the surface, we searched the Morven Park landscape for evidence of underground activity that leads to the sensory-rich spectacle of spring. Rocks and grasses, chewed nutshells and tree roots led us to the firm belief that nature was silently preparing for its next cycle of fertility. This workshop, led by Nancy Morgan, takes place on the first Thursday of each month.
