Twelve participants came together for the first new year’s Writing in Nature workshop led by Nancy Morgan. As always, there were some veterans and some newcomers. We remarked on the unusually warm weather and agreed most of this workshop would be held outdoors to take full advantage of nature’s winter respite. Each was asked to reflect on aspects of 2022 they would definitely carry forward into the new year. After making notes and listening to a related poem by Richard Jones, each person in turn offered a description of people, places and memories and feelings too precious to leave behind.
For our outdoor activity, writers were charged with selecting two characters in nature and imagining their conversation. We remained outdoors and regathered at the two picnic tables next to the gatehouse to share what we experienced with our senses and the stories and perspectives inspired by the Morven Park environment.
