Four participants, three returning, joined the third session of Writing in Nature on a chilly fall morning in early November. Led by Nancy Morgan, we split our time between writing indoors and outdoor activities. Our topic was Harvest: Celebrating the Season. Through poems, personal stories written and verbalized, we first contemplated facing winter with the choices animals make: hibernate, migrate or ice skate (staying put and making the best of it). With the theme of harvest, or gathering, we spent time outside, gathering sensory images with the stipulation that we choose one location, plant our feet and see what happens. The reporting back on the challenge of standing still revealed how much our lives are about staying in motion, and what we miss by not taking time to stop and truly take in what surrounds us. We closed by contemplating Thanksgiving and the reality of possibly being both grateful and grumpy that day. Responses ranged from the personal to the natural world. All participant responses were, as always, brilliant. The next Writing in Nature workshop will be held December 2, 11:00 am.
