The monthly bird walk at at Sweet Run State Park on November 22 had an excellent bird show for the group of six birders. We were lucky to have avoided the earlier and started off with just some fog. We found six Fox Sparrows, six Hermit Thrushes, five Winter Wrens, 50 Cedar Waxwings, eight Eastern Bluebirds and a juvenile Bald Eagle that passed over us twice. We’ve probably never seen that many Fox Sparrows on a walk before. We also had three Golden-crowned Kinglets, and one gave us a great look at his golden stripe. Of course we had a Common Raven, which we got a good look at, and we had two Brown Creepers and two Hairy Woodpeckers.
We spotted so many good birds on the walk that we did not make it around the Farmstead loop as we usually do. We ended up with 39 species. The complete list of birds can be seen on eBird at: https://ebird.org/checklist/S285620423.
