The April 27 Celebrate Birds walk at Morven Park came with 20 mph sustained winds gusting up to 35 mph. The group of 15, led by Carol Sottili and Molly Simpson, felt incredibly lucky to see and/or hear 51 species (not including a couple of crows that remained silent so we could not identify which species they were). Highlights included copulating Tree Swallows, a soaring Osprey and good looks at Red-headed Woodpeckers, Scarlet Tanagers, a Northern Parula, a lovely male Yellow-rumped Warbler in breeding plumage and an Orchard Oriole. We also saw a Yellow-bellied sapsucker and two Dark-eyed Juncos that should have already headed north, so they required documentation in eBird. Some birds were heard, but not seen, including Eastern Meadowlarks and Ovenbirds.
