Nine people joined workshop leader Nancy Morgan at the Gate House on March 2 to write and talk about their thoughts and feelings related to the day’s theme: “Surprised by Light: Counting the Hours to the Summer Solstice.” The topic was abstract, but participants quickly generated a variety of ideas — everything from their favorite place and time of day to issues with light sensitivity.
The day was mild so we spent time wandering around the grounds in search of light, or the lack thereof, and how nature is impacted by light. The wind picked up so we regathered indoors to report on our findings and read the notes we took during our outdoor excursion. Poems by Tom Hennen and Emily Dickenson illuminated our activities.
