Five participants joined us for the March Writing in Nature workshop entitled In Like a Lion guided by Nancy Morgan. After reviewing workshop objectives, each person introduced themselves and shared what they were most looking forward to about spring.
Wendell Berry’s poem beginning: “The pasture, bleached and cold…” was read to illustrate the topic of Clean Sweep of the March Winds. Participants were asked to write about aspects of life they would happily sweep away with those winds. The second activity, which was outdoors, encouraged coming to our senses by wandering outdoors and waking up to the sounds, sights, smells, etc. of late winter and early spring. It was warm enough to sit at the new picnic tables near the gatehouse to write and discuss our writing. Links identified between our shared experiences reinforced the value of writing in community.
