Recently the Blue Ridge Center applied for a grant from Loudoun County to help cover insurance costs that keeps the Center open to the public. The Blue Ridge Center ranked in the top third of evaluated applications, but the county’s Finance Committee vetoed our receipt of the grants. However, the final decision on our grant is up to the full Board of Supervisors…
YOU CAN HELP SUPPORT THE BLUE RIDGE CENTER TODAY by urging your Loudoun County to approve this important funding for the Blue Ridge Center. Please call or send a message to Chairman York, to Vice-Chairman Williams. Loudoun residents can directly contact their own district Supervisor (see the list below). Feel free to leverage the sample message below or personalize your email or phone call. The Blue Ridge Center needs your help!
Dear Supervisor (insert name-see list below),
I urge you to support funding for The Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship, an independent non-profit organization in Loudoun County, as a part of the FY14 County budget. The Blue Ridge Center recently applied for a grant of $7650 from the County to pay expenses for insurance, which represents 13% of the Center’s annual budget, to help keep the Center open to the residents of Loudoun County. This application was for funds from the Regional, Intergovernmental, and Non-Profit Organizations portion of the FY 2014 County Budget.
The County has provided funds for several years to selected non-profit organizations that make a significant contribution to the County. The Blue Ridge Center provides over 890 acres of publicly available land in the County and had over 3000 known visitor days in 2012. It is used by numerous County residents as well as visitors from outside of Loudoun, including school students for science field trips, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for hiking and camping, families for all types of outdoor and history-based activities, and as a training site for rescue teams in Loudoun County. It was ranked in the top 20 organizations after a rigorous review by County staff and recommended for funding in the FY14 budget.
My family has personally enjoyed . . . . . at the Blue Ridge Center. (Tell your personal story)
This is an extremely valuable resource to the citizens throughout Loudoun County as it is the largest park space in the County that is open every day of the year with free access. I urge you to support funding for the Blue Ridge Center for FY14.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
(Name of Friend)
