Work Day at JK Black Oak
May 6 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful 89-acre wildlife preserve located in Lucketts. Loudoun Wildlife purchased the property in 2020 to preserve this globally rare wetland, which is home to a wonderful diversity of unique species. Our habitat restoration projects for this work day include starting on the installation of the third (and largest) deer exclusion fence, remove invasives from the area and build/install tree cages to protect tree seedlings in the oak-hickory forest. Please be aware that you may encounter poison ivy and ticks at the work site. Long sleeves and pants, gloves and insect repellant are recommended. Additional information and directions to the site will be provided the week of work day. 20 volunteers needed – volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate. Registration required.
The work day will take place rain or shine, unless it is heavy rain.
Please note: due to the environmentally sensitive habitat and rare species, JK Black Oak is not open for general public access.
Questions: Contact Volunteer Coordinator Kim Strader at kstrader@loudounwildlife.org.
Registration is full. Thank you for volunteering.
