Salt Watch Program Kickoff (Virtual)
October 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Want to protect our streams while having fun? Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy needs volunteers to help test stream sites once per month year-round and around winter weather events to track the impact of road salt. It’s a quick, easy and engaging way to make a difference in your community!
This is a great opportunity for individuals, couples, families and youth groups to get involved as citizen scientists and enjoy the beauty of our local streams. Whether you’re in Leesburg or elsewhere in the county, we need volunteers to join us in protecting Loudoun’s waterways.
At the kickoff event, Amy Ulland, Stream Monitoring Program Coordinator, will explain how road salt affects our environment, health and infrastructure—not just in winter, but all year long. She’ll also share how you can get involved with this nationwide citizen science program and help us collect valuable local data.
Amy will explain how to conduct testing and report data and sign up participants to receive free testing supplies. She will also talk about how the data we collect helps with educational outreach and advocacy to encourage smarter salting practices and improve our local streams. Registration required.
Connection information for the presentation will be sent to registered participants prior to the event.
