Cocoa and Conservation Second Saturdays Winter Hiking Series: First Harbingers of Spring

Join Kelly Roach, outdoor educator and conservation advocate, for this monthly opportunity presented by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy to explore the hidden ecological wonders of the season right here in Loudoun. This month, we will go on a skunk cabbage and spring peeper hunt. The deep, steep ravines dropping down toward the Potomac trap moisture and geothermal warmth. These swampy bottomlands are a premier spot to find skunk cabbage cutting through the ice and to listen for the first waking chorus of tiny native frogs. We provide the warm cocoa, you bring your favorite reusable mug! Each themed walk is a stand-alone event; come to one or join us for the whole series to watch the seasonal shift firsthand. Dress for the elements and wear sturdy footwear. Family Friendly. Registration required 48 hours in advance.
