Jan moved to Loudoun County in 2006 after raising her family in Falls Church for 27 years. She is an avid gardener and also became interested in bird watching as she enjoyed vistas of tall oaks, Virginia pines and tulip poplars. In an effort to get to know Loudoun County, she participated in the Landscape for Life class co-sponsored by LWC. That led her to leave behind the non-native azaleas and hostas and develop her interest in native plants especially in regard to their support of native insects and wildlife and has filled her garden with native plants. She has enjoyed volunteering at the LWC Native Plant sales and currently serves on the Grounds Committee of a large HOA encouraging the removal of invasive plants and the use of natives. She continues as a bluebird monitor and has been a trail lead for many years for the trails in Brambleton.
