SUMMARY:Birding Sweet Run
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Sweet Run State Park has 894 acres of diverse habitat\, consisting of rich oak-hickory forest\, meadows\, ponds\, streams\, and vernal pools in northwestern Loudoun. It borders the Appalachian Trail and is only a couple of miles from the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. Sweet Run is a wonderful sanctuary for Loudoun wildlife\, with numerous bird species utilizing its richness. Meet at the main parking lot near the Interpretive Center; bring binoculars if you have them. The Park is located just north of Neersville at 11661 Harpers Ferry Road (Route 671). Directions can be found on the Park’s website. Registration required. \nFee Notice: Sweet Run collects a parking fee at self-pay kiosks located at each parking area/entrance. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Join Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy at Rust Library to launch our sixth season of Salt Watch\, a hands-on community science program that tracks road salt pollution in our local streams and advocates for smarter salting practices. \nAmy Ulland\, Stream Monitoring Program Coordinator\, will begin with a presentation about why monitoring chloride levels matters for clean water\, wildlife\, and healthy communities and share some of our past data. Then participants will take part in a hands-on demo to see just how easy Salt Watch is to do. \nThis project is perfect for families\, couples\, individuals and school groups. Monitoring takes less than 15 minutes\, supplies are free\, and volunteers collect data once a month year-round\, with additional sampling after winter weather events. SUMMARY:Identifying Hawks: A Field Trip to Waggoner’s Gap\, PA

Join Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy on a field trip to Waggoner’s Gap\, about a 2.5-hour drive\, one of the premier hawk-watching sites in our area. If the weather cooperates\, we should see a wide diversity of birds of prey\, including Golden Eagles! John Denice\, who will be leading the field trip\, will help you identify hawks and other birds of prey in the field.  In case of inclement weather\, the field trip will be rescheduled to either November 7 or 8. DESCRIPTION:WHERE: Keep Loudoun Beautiful Park\, 43055 Golf Club Rd\, Leesburg\, VA 20175\nWHEN: Saturday\, Oct. 31\, 9:00 am – 12 pm\nWHAT: Loudoun Wildlife will be joining with our friends at the Loudoun Invasive Removal Alliance (LIRA)\, Goose Creek Association\, Keep Loudoun Beautiful\, and Loudoun County Parks and Recreation to plant 20-25 native shrubs at Keep Loudoun Beautiful Park\, a kickoff event for an ongoing restoration project at the park our respective organizations will be participating in over the next several months.\n Costumes are welcome-stay tuned for a possible costume contest!\nVOLUNTEER NEEDS: We are looking for 10-15 volunteers to join the “Invasive Busters” Halloween Team and help us plant 20-25 native shrubs. Volunteers will help dig the holes and place the plants as directed. We are also looking for 2 volunteers to staff a Loudoun Wildlife information table during the event\, sharing information on our programs and signing people up for our email list. Volunteers helping with the planting should be able to dig using provided shovels and help lift 3- to 5-gallon sized plants. Registration Required\, please register here!
