SUMMARY:Save the Bluebells: Garlic Mustard Pull
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Garlic Mustard is an invasive species that began taking over Ball’s Bluff years ago. Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy mobilizes a crew in early spring to pull the invasive plant before it spreads further competing with the spring ephemerals that make the park so beautiful. Each invasive plant removed\, no matter how small\, makes an impact because the millions of seeds from the removed plants never get a chance to fall into the soil seed bank. Be part of this important habitat conservation project and sign up to be on a contacted each week with a reminder to attend the event. DESCRIPTION:JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful 89-acre wildlife preserve located in Lucketts that is owned and managed by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy. We’ll be removing invasive vines from the tree cages near the Wood Duck vernal pool and possibly tackling Autumn Olive if we have time. Due to the environmentally sensitive habitat and rare species\, JK Black Oak is not open for general public access. Additional information and directions to the site will be provided the week of work day. 20 volunteers needed – volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate.  Registration required. \nPlease note: Work days require physical activity\, which may be strenuous\, such as digging and sawing in weedy\, overgrown areas. Please be aware that poison ivy and ticks may present. Long sleeves and pants\, gardening gloves and insect repellant are recommended. Closed-toe footwear is required. By removing litter along the roadway bordering the wetlands\, volunteers will directly support local conservation efforts and Keep Virginia Beautiful’s Greatest Virginia Greenup campaign. \nWhat to Wear: \n\nClosed-toe shoes or boots\nLong pants (recommended)\nWeather-appropriate clothing\nSunscreen and bug spray\n\nImportant Information: \n\nCleanup supplies and refreshments will be provided.\nCommemorative event T-shirts will be available. Then Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy’s 30th annual butterfly count is the place for you! Teams of experts\, enthusiasts\, and beginners will spend the day scouting gardens\, roadside ditches\, and public spaces in search of these amazing insects. It’s a big area and we need your help. No experience necessary and all ages are welcome.
