SUMMARY:Work Day at JK Black Oak
DESCRIPTION:JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful 89-acre wildlife preserve located in Lucketts that is owned by Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy.  Join us for the first work day of 2025 when we will start on one of two vernal pool restoration projects. Additional information and directions to the site will be provided a couple of days before the event. Due to the environmentally sensitive habitat and rare species\, JK Black Oak is not open for general public access. 20 volunteers needed – volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate.  Registration required. \nPlease note: Work days require physical activity\, which may be strenuous\, such as digging and sawing in weedy\, overgrown areas. Please be aware that poison ivy and ticks may present. Long sleeves and pants\, gardening gloves and insect repellant are recommended. The area where we will be working will most likely be wet and muddy so please wear appropriate shoes or boots.  If you do not enjoy working in these types of conditions\, you should seek out other volunteer opportunities. \nQuestions: Contact Volunteer Coordinator Kim Strader at kstrader@loudounwildlife.org. \nRegistration is full.

Join our dedicated Stream Team and help uncover the hidden world of aquatic life while playing a vital role in monitoring the health of Loudoun’s beautiful waterways. Whether you’re a seasoned nature enthusiast or just looking to try something new\, this is your opportunity to explore\, learn and contribute — all under the guidance of our expert certified stream monitors. \nPlease ensure you’re available for both the original and rain dates. We’ll email the exact location to registered participants closer to the event. Please wear water boots. All other equipment will be provided. 3 volunteers needed\, ages 13 and up. Those under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Registration required.
