Multi-legged, Hard-bodied Animals that Have Taken Over the World
May 2, 2023 @ 6:00 pm

Take a deep dive with Dr. David Adamski into the world of the arthropods at this Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy sponsored event. These common and fascinating creatures have their roots in the Cambrian period, over 500 million years ago, and have evolved into the most prolific animals on the planet. So much so, that they outnumber all plants and animals in total numbers and numbers of species on our planet. With this introduction as a background, enjoy this presentation about these creatures that have inherited the planet. With an apparently simple body-plan, learn the complexities of this group of animals and the many habitats they have dominated since their origin. During this presentation, you will see and hear about species you have never seen or heard about as well as the common species you have seen in your backyard. Afterwards, we’ll head to nearby JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary with Dr. Adamski where he has set up lights to see what arthropods have come to visit.
